The SDSEL is a league specializing in high school athletics. With the SDSEL in its second season, students can compete and earn credit and recognition with their school. The league builds general horsemanship knowledge as well as competitive growth. Our goal is to embrace fair and friendly high school competition and high school team spirit; to encourage a knowledge of horsemanship and the development of superior riding skills in young riders and to support; develop athletes for regional and national competition in equestrian sports; and to prepare them for collegiate college level equestrian sports.
DESIGN OF THE LEAGUE:
Students who are already a part of the equestrian world of sports who participate in many of the local and regional horse shows in hunter/jumper classes will continue to participate in those shows earning individual points and awards. In addition, as a SDSEL school team they will earn a second set of awards and points that go towards the school team. Eight shows of the fifty shows normally scheduled in the show season have been designated SDSEL shows. Students on the school team will be required to participate in a minimum of four shows to qualify for the medals finals. The student/riders current trainer will act as their coach/trainer at the SDIEL shows
SCORING/POINTS:
Ribbons will be awarded to 1st through 8th place. Individual points shall be awarded for all classes and counted for all riders. High Point and High Point Reserve Individual and School ribbons will be awarded at each show in each division, and overall for each show. Year end/perpetual trophies will be awarded at the end of the show season. Each division will have a high-point school and individual winner.
